CAMRA “Heart of Wessex” Pub of the Year 2012

We have recently received the fantastic news that we have won the CAMRA “Heart of Wessex Pub of the Year 2012″.

The presentation evening will be on the last day of our beer festival, Tuesday 5th June at 7.30pm and we would love it if you could make it!  It’s also going to be “Discount Day” – the day when we try and shift any remaining ales from our beer & cider festival, so there will be bargains to be had!!

We will now be competing against other regional winners from East Dorset, East Hampshire, Guernsey, Isle of Wight, Jersey, North Hampshire, Portsmouth & South East Hampshire, Salisbury & South Wiltshire, South Hampshire and West Dorset for the title of CAMRA “Wessex Pub of the Year 2012″.

As always, if you would like to speak to us in person Will or Amy are at the end of the phone – just give us a bell on 01963 32998.  Thanks!

Something to tempt your taste buds this weekend…

You will be pleased to know that Barnsey (4.5% ABV) from Bath Ales is making a welcome return today. We had this ale on a week or two ago and it sold out in a day – this time around we’ve made sure we have a couple of tubs of it! We also have Summer’s Hare (3.9% ABV) from Bath Ales – it’s a brilliant light and hoppy seasonal beer, carefully brewed using the transatlantic pairing of the UK’s Brambling Cross and Washington state’s own Chinook hops. Summer’s Hare contains wheat and barley malt. After these we have the ever popular Barnowl from Cotleigh Brewery at 4.5% ABV.

We are also trying out a replacement for Guinness at the moment, it’s called Dark Side from Bath Ales 4% ABV. As it is a relatively new product they are still trying to iron out a couple of issues, but it is a traditional English stout, brewed using a blend of dark roasted malts and an old-fashioned (and rather famous) English hop called Fuggles. Dark Side contains wheat and barley malt. We value our customers opinions, and invite you to come and try a half on us, and give us your honest opinion on it.

If you’re looking for something special to eat this weekend, Will & Chris have been cooking up a storm in the kitchen! On offer we have:

Pint shell on prawns served with lemon mayonnaise

Steak Au Poivre – 8oz skirt steak served with garlic & rosemary sauteed potatoes & wilted spinach

Roast sea bream served with Jersey Royal potatoes and dressed mixed leaves

Pork fillet cooked with sage & white wine, served with garlic & rosemary sauteed potatoes & broccoli

Pan fried duck served with two types of lentils

If this appeals, Will & Amy are at the end of the phone waiting to take your booking!
